Circularity and sustainability by design

The main scope
The 2024 Clocks Circular Economy Summer School will focus on design for the circular economy and sustainability. Experts from academia and companies will address the following question:
How can we create durable, reusable, repairable and recyclable products from raw materials that are not harmful to living beings and the natural environment through energy-efficient, non-polluting and zero-waste production?
The special feature of this school is the opportunity to discuss with the experts after the lectures.
Teaching topics
- Materials and ecodesign: glass, paper, textile, food
- Circular chemistry
- Manufacturing for circularity: electromotors, mobile phones
- Sustainable and bio-based enzymatic food production and plastic biodegradation
- Methodological tools: artificial intelligence, modeling and design of experiments to enhance circularity and sustainability
- Process evaluation: measuring circularity
Hackathon
You will be involved in a hackathon to solve reality based industrial challenges related to design for the circular economy and sustainability.

Master’s students have the opportunity to take part in the Summer School if places are still available after the application deadline. However, they are advised to apply in advance.

Meals
Participants have the opportunity to buy vouchers for lunch in the in the Cafe CaRé on the Science Campus (choice of two dishes a day) or in the main Mensa, where the choice is greater.
The price of the voucher (includes a main course with two side dishes (e.g. salad and dessert) and a drink):

The vouchers can be ordered via the application form for the Summer School. The purchase of a voucher is obligatory if it is ordered.
The total number of vouchers is limited. The distribution of vouchers among participants will therefore be performed according to the “first come, first serve”-principle. The respective amount is to be paid in cash.
There are two bakeries near the venue. Other places to eat and drink can be found in the city center (approx. 30 minutes walk).
